What is the
UAE Golden Visa?

The UAE Golden Visa is a long-term residency permit allowing foreign nationals to live, work and study in the UAE without a national sponsor. The standard Golden Visa is issued for ten years and is renewable. Holders enjoy benefits including UAE tax-residency eligibility, no minimum days-in-UAE requirement, and the ability to sponsor family members.

What are the eligibility pathways?

The UAE Golden Visa is granted under several distinct pathways, each with different criteria:

What benefits does the Golden Visa provide?

Ten-year renewable residency with no employer-sponsor requirement; ability to sponsor spouse, children (no age limit) and parents; ability to enter and exit the UAE freely without a six-month presence requirement; eligibility for UAE tax-residency certification (subject to actual presence and substance); access to the UAE banking and financial-services system as a resident.

Can a Golden Visa holder obtain UAE tax residency?

Yes — the Golden Visa provides the immigration foundation, but UAE tax residency requires meeting the FTA's tax-residency criteria (physical presence and centre of vital interests). The two are related but distinct. Most HNW principals pair the Golden Visa with genuine UAE-presence (premises, time in jurisdiction, family location, banking) to qualify for the Tax Residency Certificate.

How does the application process work?

Applications are submitted through the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) for Dubai-based applicants or the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security for other emirates. Documentation, biometrics and medical examination are required. Approval typically takes 2–8 weeks depending on pathway complexity.

What is the renewal process?

The Golden Visa is renewable but not automatic. Renewal requires demonstration of continued eligibility under the original pathway (e.g. continued property ownership, continued investment, continued accreditation). Holders should structure their affairs to maintain eligibility throughout the 10-year period.
